How we work What is a server Dont just take our word for it Services Contact

A computer or device on a network that manages your IT network resources and is usually dedicated to certain tasks. A server can help to centralise your data, printers and email services enabling you to control access from your computers through the network.

Do you need a server?

If you have just started a business with a couple of computers, then probably not.

If your business is growing and your staff using computers is increasing, then the answer is likely to be yes. A server will give you a number of important benefits including:

  • Greater protection for your company data with user access controlled using approved usernames and passwords – you control who has access to which information
  • If you need a private section which only a few or even one person can look at then this is possible with a server
  • You can distribute email from your own server
  • Telling the printers how and when to print
  • If you decide all important data (company records) is to be stored and accessed from the server, then automatic nightly back up becomes possible thus helping to avoid data loss
  • Your Customer Relationship Management software can be stored and accessed from the server
  • You can keep your company diary on your server so that everyone can easily be found
  • You can remotely access information on your server from home, when you are away or even abroad
